Abu Simbel - Aswan VIP trip in 2 days

After the Pyramids and the Sphinx, Abu Simbel is the most famous ancient Egyptian monument. The most powerful pharaoh, II. It was built by Ramses and its facade is adorned with four gigantic images of Him.

This marked the southern back of Egypt and proclaimed the power of Pharaoh. Its sight still amazes the viewer today. The 21-meter-high throne colossi are the largest surviving Egyptian statues. The temple was oriented so that twice a year (February 22; October 22) the rays of the rising sun fell on the three sacred figures of the inner sanctuary, while the fourth Path remained in shadow. Some Egyptologists believe these days are the anniversary of the coronation and birth of Ramses.

First day:

In the early morning we set off from our hotel in Hurghada to Aswan, including 2 short breaks along the way. Our arrival is expected in the early afternoon. We will have our delicious lunch in the best local restaurant in Aswan. Then we will take a look at the Philae Temple, one of the most famous Aswan attractions, with the help of our Hungarian-speaking Egyptologist. Built in honor of the goddess Isis on a small island in the Nile, the church complex harmonizes perfectly with the waterfront landscape. The Philaera can only be reached by small motorboat, which in itself is a great experience. About 500 meters from its original location, on the higher island of Agilka, the church was rebuilt with the help of UNESCO between 1977 and 1980, after the construction of the Aswan Dam flooded this wonderful place of worship for most of the year. Next to the temple of Isis we visit the temple of Hathor as well as the kiosk of the Roman emperor Trajan.

We then head back to the city of Aswan to see the unfinished Obelisk. The three sides of the huge obelisk were beautifully cut out, but the fourth was not excavated from the rock bed. An error was noticed in the stone, so it was not finished. If completed, this nearly 42-foot-tall obelisk would have been the largest of its kind. We will then board a boat to visit the surviving beauties of Nubian culture, visit a Nubian village, see how they live, study, admire their colorful houses, listen to their music, and learn to count in the Nubian language. Afterwards we will have our dinner and head to our booked accommodation, a 4 * hotel on the banks of the Nile.

In the evening there is a free program, relaxation, preparation for the next day's miracle!

The second day:

We leave at dawn after drinking our coffee (breakfast package on the bus), heading to Abu Simbel to see the two most famous temples with their own uniqueness, which are masterpieces of ancient Egypt.

Abu Simbel is located on the shores of Lake Nasser. Although the building looks like its customer, II. They would have been exalted to the glory of Ramses, in fact this temple carved into the rock was dedicated to Re-Harakhti, chief gods of Amon and Path, which also had to be rebuilt cut to pieces from the water. It was saved for us, cut into more than 2,000 pieces, and rebuilt about 200 meters away, 65 meters higher, carefully taking care of its orientation. The shape of the mountain into which the church was once carved was reconstructed using two concrete vaults covered with rocks and sand.

Thanks to this we can see II. The Great Temple of Ramses, as well as the Little Temple dedicated to the goddess Hathor, who appears here in the form of Ramses' wife, Queen Nefertiti.

On the way home, we enter the scene of our last station, where we look at the Great Dam. Work on the Aswan Dam began in 1960 with the help of the Zuk Hydroproject Institute. During the ten-year construction, 43 million cubic meters of building materials were used for the natural stone object, sixteen times as much as it once was for the Great Pyramid of Giza. From the top of the dam you can clearly see Lake Nasser and Kalabsha Temple to the south as well as the power plant to the north.
